I hate to admit this, but after 2 years trying to be a successful internet marketer, I still struggle with SEO. Mostly because I have information overload I think.

However, I’ve recently become active at Lynn Terry’s Elite Group at SelfStartersWeeklyTips.com forum. Lynn provides exclusive access to lots of resources to here elite members including a guide to keyword research, and most recently a webinar with Karon Thackston on SEO copywriting.

Now I {Almost} Get It! After reading Lynn’s keyword guide and watching the SEO copywriting webinar, I feel like I know how to optimize my posts and pages. I say I almost get it because I need to do some real in-depth keyword research to fully optimize my site. These resources have really simplified the process for me, so I can work smarter and not harder.

Another benefit to being a member of Lynn’s Elite Group is the private forum. Here I can ask for input and advice without it being public. And we all help each other out. Plus, Lynn herself always provides her input. I love having access to the mind of internet marketing’s leaders!

As I hinted at in my previous post about Mom Masterminds, a paid membership to a group such as SelfStartersWeeklyTips is essential for my business success. I stress paid membership because you really can’t trust the freebies – you don’t know if your getting advice from a successful internet marketer so don’t know when someone is blowing smoke up your butt. I just wish I had figured that out two years ago!

Last weekend we took Little Dude to A Day Out With Thomas. When I came across the flyer at Quick Check, I immediately drove home and ordered the tickets. They were $18 each. OK, a little expensive, but Little Dude is CRAZY for Thomas. Besides, the flyer promised “a day of family fun”: a 25 minute ride with Thomas, Meet Sir Topham Hatt, Live Music, Build with Lego Duplo Bricks and much more.

So we drive over an hour Sunday morning to Phillipsburg Delaware River Railroad Excursions for “a day of family fun”. Allow me to use bullet-points to illustrate the fun.

It was crazy crowded – toddlers and preschoolers EVERYWHERE

I only heard recorded music – nothing live

We waited in line for 15 minutes just to get a picture with Thomas

When it was our turn, Thomas was so noisy, little dude had to cover his ears

Time for the ride on the coaches pulled by Thomas that were not any better than the inside of a school bus – no air, no decorations and no crowd control

The “conductor” that punched our tickets wasn’t dressed as a real conductor so Little Dude didn’t want to give up the tickets

The train ride was 13 minutes forward, then 13 minutes backwards

Upon getting off the coach, we were greeted with girls selling Thomas balloons – for $9 each

The “build with Lego Duplo Bricks was just 3 picnic tables with about 20 toddlers and preschoolers climbing everywhere

The professional picture taken with Thomas cost $15 for 2 5×7 prints plus an additional $40 for the digital file (hence the watermark on the picture in this post)

$5 for a hot dog and $8 for fries (we went to McDonalds)

All in all, we spent about 2 hours at A Day Out With Thomas. So much for “a day of family fun”.

The next day, we went to Jenkinson’s in Point Pleasant and spent $20 on tickets for rides. So worth it!! Little Dude went on 7 rides, had cotton candy, got a temporary tattoo, and LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

Oh yeah, remember that $9 balloon I mentioned? Well the darn string wasn’t tied tight enough to it and it slipped off. There went a mylar Thomas, up up and away into the sky as Little Dude held the string. Nice way to end the day.

So it was beautiful weather here on Monday in NJ so Little Dude and Hubby spent 2 hours in the pool. Then we had lunch – hot dawgs on the grill. While Hubby and I were cleaning up, we came out to the deck to find Little Dude sound asleep on the rattan love seat. SO CUTE!

Now let me tell you a little bit about our freaken pool. It drives me crazy!

First you must read my post about it on my first blog here.

Hubby’s obsession continues.

Because he grew-up with money, he’s used to having an in-ground heated pool. So last summer he scoured CraigsList and Ebay and found a used heater to purchase. It was only $200 – but it’s a gas appliance so we had Handy-Man Chip (aka my Daddy) some over and hook-up the gas.

Next we realized that the little filter/pump that comes with the little pool didn’t produce enough water pressure for the heater to turn-on. Grrr. So again he scours the internet to find a new filter system. Let me remind you again that this is for a 12-foot inflatable pool that is just 3 feet deep. He finds one – but not used, new and it cost another $200. It produced just enough pressure, but didn’t “suck” enough for a pool-vacuum to work. Oh yes dear reader, he purchased a freakin vacuum for $49 for this little pool.

Fast forward to winter: My aunt moved into a new home that once had a pool. The parts were left behind in the garage, so she gave Hubby the filter. OK – an upgraded filter for free – great! Hubby is happy!

Fast forward again to this spring: In April, when it was 90 degrees here in NJ, hubby uncovered the pool, set-up the filter and heater, and filled the pool – well, topped it off with what had evaporated over the winter.

The freakin thing had a hole in it! Chemical-treated water pouring into my garden and yard!

So hubby decides to upgrade the pool and we got an aluminum framed pool that fit in the exact same spot ($199.00). We set it up, filled it, added the chemicals and guess what – it had a hole. Yep, a brand spankin new pool had a hole in the bottom liner. So we had to drain it (2400 gallons of water), dismantle it, and return it.

Got a replacement and it’s all good.

BUT – the free filter isn’t working. So Hubby and Handy-Man Chip take the thing apart and discovered that the motor was beat-up and the cartridge was just too old and dirty to work. They fixed the motor and we ordered a new cartridge – $185. Yep – one-hundred-eighty-five-dollars for a new filter cartridge.

So here we are in June, appreciating the cute picture of Little Dude taking a nap after swimming in the freakin pool. Am I bitter – a little. I love the fact that Little Dude gets to swim every day, and he is learning to swim. I love the fact that Hubby gets to spend lots of time in the pool with Little Dude.

But I hate how Hubby is obsessed with the pool! I don’t even want to figure out the grand-total of money spent on this damn thing. And the amount of hours spent on it – ugh! I just wish Hubby would spend some of his efforts helping out in the house with laundry, dishes, etc., instead on spending it on the pool. It would be a big help. And I would have more time to blog!

Well, a while ago Little Dude and I were at the home improvement store with my father. Daddy is there almost on a daily basis (he’s a handy-man) so of course we didn’t get far into the store before someone stopped him to chat. He introduces Little Dude: “This is my grandson Joey”.

Then he introduces me: “This is Joey’s Mom.”

WHAT? SERIOUSLY? I’m your daughter. I’m your first born child! I’m not just Joey’s Mom!

Hence the name of my blog
